O2 finally offers an unlimited tariff

Hot on the heels of T-Mobile’s Full Monty offering, O2 have announced a new tariff that includes both unlimited calls and unlimited texts. Called the On & On tariff, it starts from only £26 a month.

However, unlike 3 and T-Mobile, the tariff does not include an unlimited data allowance. O2 have long been infamous for having the most miserly inclusive data packages, and they claim that 1GB is a very large amount. We’re finding go that more and more smart phone users need much more than 1 GB to last them through the month. An additional gigabyte will cost you £5 on the plan. Luckily, O2 do tend to send regular text updates on how much of your data allowance you’ve used so far so it should be easier to keep within your limits.

Despite this, O2 is surely hoping to win over plenty of new and existing customers to this competitive new tariff. The unlimited calls can be made to any UK mobile or landline number and unlimited texts can be sent to any UK number too.

Sally Cowdry, director of marketing and consumer at O2 said:

On & On gives our customers the most value we’ve ever offered in a Pay Monthly tariff. Whether they’re choosing to stay with us or joining O2 for the first time, they’ll be able to talk and text as much as they like, while enjoying the internet on their mobile absolutely worry-free. And only O2 has the added value benefits of priority access to 4000 acts a year with Priority Tickets and everyday offers and discounts with Priority Moments.

What you think of this new unlimited tariff from O2? Would you be tempted to sign up for it? And which is your favourite of all the unlimited plans currently available – O2’s On & On, T-Mobile’s Full Monty, 3’s All-You-Can-Eat or Giffgaff’s incredible goodybags?

HTC One S preview

Continuing our look at the new HTC One range of mobile phones, we’re taking a look at the HTC One S today.

The One S does mimic many of its bigger brother’s features although some aspects have been downsized. The 4.3 inch amoLED screen is an ideal combination of large dimensions at a manageable size which is what many people would admire of the One S. Additionally, its super slick form factor and diet to 119.8 grams will feel breezy to hold.

The One S does away with two of the cores leaving it a still considerably commanding 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core processor. Screen resolution has taken a minor hit though with a resolution of 560*960 – just a tick behind the iPhone 4S’s retina display of 640*960 pixels . The internal storage has been halved to 16GB but this is more than enough for a vast collection of music and a couple of movies. Whilst the front facing camera has been converted into a VGA resolution but is still a decent offering.

The rest of the features stay the same so to summarise: Beats Audio, 8MP camera, 1080p HD recording, 1GB RAM, 1650mAh battery.

Get the HTC One S from just £29/month with 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 250MB data

Giffgaff sponsors The Big Bang Theory

Pure energy coalescing into elementary particles at gazillions of degrees Celsius, superluminal hyperexpansion, quark soup, the first proton synthesis followed by helium fusion, the first photons and, all the while, unavoidable entropic cooling.

The beginning of our universe, especially the first three minutes, is fascinating yet ridiculously complicated. And now there’s a new beginning for our top-rated mobile network. Giffgaff, like the early universe, is undergoing rapid expansion and now they have branched into TV advertising starting off with geek-humour show The Big Bang Theory and five-a-day-a-like Rude Tube, both broadcast online and on E4.

While these might be both pretty low-brow shows, they will certainly massively increase brand awareness for the mobile network that claims to be run by its members. Giffgaff head of brand and proposition Tom Rainsford said:

Our TV debut is a very exciting step for us as a young and ambitious brand. Giffgaff brings a unique offering to the mobile sector and has built a thriving community that spans all age groups, but we’re always looking for new ways to reach different audiences.

and there’s no denying that what we’ve seen of the advertising campaign so far is a lot of fun for viewers. The advertising agency Albion was commissioned to produce the adverts and came with a very appropriate short for The Big Bang Theory ads. the sponsored videos for Rude Tube our satirical takes on popular viral videos and The Big Bang Theory ads will consist of things being exploded – who doesn’t enjoy that? The first one was a massive cake celebrating Giffgaff’s 100,000 likes on Facebook. Check out the ad yourself below and let us know what you think about it:
