#4: The IPO of Twitter
We’ve been working on a recap of the biggest stories in mobile and tech from last year. With our good friend Scottie Ladeaux we’re going to bring you a new post looking back on our picks from 2013 every Thursday.
Today we have #4 in the countdown and Scottie is looking at the IPO of Twitter on November 7th last year. Twitter chose to go public on the New York Stock Exchange and this was the most highly anticipated IPO of the year in a year that had more big IPOs than any since 2000.
Anticipation of Twitter going public was high in part part due to the fact that other internet utilities like LinkedIn and Facebook have recently gone public as well. many may remember 2012’s Facebook ipo which was also very highly anticipated did not seem to go so well.
Additional buzz was created by the début of Nick Bilton’s book about the genesis of the company at #5 on the the Wall Street Journal Best Seller list just two days before the IPO.
